Description

Sunday, September 20 | 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
$275 per person
Limited to 4 participants ~ If all four slots are not filled at least seven days prior to the scheduled date, the class will be canceled.

We work with glass in three different ways here at Terrapin, and for this special workshop with Dominique, you’ll have the opportunity to experience all three while creating your own murrine paperweight.

We’ll begin with a general studio tour so you can better understand each process. Next, you’ll arrange pre-made murrine on a clear glass panel, choosing from flowers, leaves, ladybugs, birds, and turtles. Your design will then be heated in the kiln and fused together.

While your fused pieces are heating, you’ll be introduced to the torch, where you’ll spend approximately an hour learning to pull stringers that will become stems, leaves, and other decorative elements inside your paperweight.

Finally, each participant will spend approximately 15 minutes in the hot shop with Dominique, assembling their paperweight while classmates cheer one another on, ask questions, and observe the process.

Paperweights require several days to cool and may need additional coldworking, which will be completed by Dominique before pickup. Shipping is also available.

Workshop Schedule

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the years, we’ve found that workshops are the most enjoyable when everyone genuinely wants to be there. This workshop involves active participation, cheering one another on, asking questions throughout the process, and spending time in all three areas of the studio. We hope you are excited to participate and look forward to having you join us.
